LYKO, the name & what it carries
Lyko is named for the Lykeion, Aristotle’s school in Athens, where the work was always applied thinking. The Lykeion wasn’t a library or a debating club. It was a place where ideas were taken seriously precisely because they were expected to do something in the world. The philosophers there were known as peripatetics, “those who walk around”, because they thought best in motion, on their feet, working through ideas in conversation rather than declaring them from a lectern.
That’s the inheritance. Twenty-four centuries later, the work hasn’t really changed. Hard problems still need clear thinking. Clear thinking still needs to land somewhere useful. The best work still happens in conversation, in motion, alongside the people who’ll have to live with the decisions.
We just do some of it with AI now.
a
business
Lyko is the AI practice of Spout Logic.
Rob Hudson started Spout Logic in 2014, at first alongside senior executive roles, as a strategic and operational partner to executive teams leading marketing transformation and growth. Over time it grew from a side practice into his full focus. The work has always sat at the point where strategy meets execution, building the marketing systems, teams, and operating models that turn a board’s ambition into something a business can actually run. That has meant working directly with boards, CEOs, and senior leadership teams across Australia and internationally, often stepping into fractional chief marketing or digital roles to lead the delivery rather than just advise on it.
More recently, Spout Logic has been moving steadily toward the practical application of AI in marketing: content systems, media optimisation, and the question of how algorithm-driven platforms are reshaping the way brands reach people. Lyko is the formalisation of that shift. It’s the part of the work that had quietly become its own discipline, given its own focus, its own brand, and its own front door.
How we actually work
This is the bit that usually gets dressed up. We’d rather just say it.
Most engagements start with a conversation, not a proposal. Half an hour, no pitch, no deck. By the end of it we either both think there’s something to talk about, or we don’t. Both outcomes are useful.
We come in at the seniority you’d hire for. No swap-out of senior partners for juniors once the work starts. The person who shows up to the first meeting is the person doing the work.
We tell you what we think, not what you want to hear. That includes when we think the work isn’t worth doing, when the timing’s wrong, or when you’d be better off with someone else. You’re paying for an honest view, so that’s what you get.
We don’t lock you in. When a piece of work wraps up, you get everything you need to carry it forward yourself: documentation, handover, whatever your team needs to operate or maintain what’s been put in place. If you choose to keep working with us, it’s because the work’s worth doing, not because we’ve made it hard to leave.
We work Australia-wide. Most of the work happens remotely, with travel for the sessions that need it. We’re based in Brisbane, working with leaders across the country.
Beyond Lyko
Spout Logic continues to do its strategy and marketing work for businesses that aren’t there for AI specifically. If your needs sit closer to that, we can point you in the right direction.
For anything to do with AI, whether that’s strategy, capability, content and brand at scale, or operational implementation, Lyko is where that conversation starts.
Who runs Lyko
Lyko is led by Rob Hudson.
Rob has spent more than thirty years working where marketing, technology, and business meet, usually in senior roles focused on making things work rather than simply advising on them. He has been a Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Digital Officer, and Managing Director across global agency networks, high-growth businesses, and private equity environments.
The consistent thread has been turning complicated, fast-moving situations into clear priorities, practical systems, and teams capable of delivering.
Over a decade inside WPP, Rob grew digital from a small share of agency revenue to the majority and built a national team. He later led marketing for a digital health business through approximately 490% growth in a year, in a regulated environment, through to acquisition. The pattern is consistent: translating ambition into something real, from board-level direction through to execution.
More recently, his focus has shifted to AI and the way it is reshaping content, media, and how brands reach people. This grew naturally from years spent watching algorithm-driven platforms change marketing, and from a belief that most businesses are either oversold or underserved on AI. Lyko is the response to that.
Rob is a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and sits on the boards of Tourism and Events Queensland and Cancer Council Queensland. That governance experience shapes Lyko’s thinking, particularly around AI in the boardroom.
Rob works the way Lyko works: senior people in the room, plain language over jargon, and honest advice about what is worth doing. The decisions remain with you. Lyko brings the thinking.
